An Open Letter to the Tumblr Dev Staff,

I’ve debated with myself whether I would email the staff personally or an open letter. But however I feel that it is just not me that feels the way I do. You have created a great service, where community is it’s biggest feature. In my opinion this is one of the best blogging platforms out there. I’ve personally experimented with Blogger, Wordpress and Durplo and I found them over the top and a hassle to code for.

The new features you guys keep pumping out are fantastic, a built in photo booth? Awesome.  The new interface tweaks that Jacob adds? Clean. The photo upload within the Text Post? Handy.

With all that said, the search functionality needs work. Generally before a post where I’m fuzzy on whether I’ve posted a artist’s song or video I’ll do a search before to make sure to make sure I don’t duplicate. I feel it affects my integrity, and if I do end up posting something new or different a artist I like to link back to previous posts. But on several frustrating occasions I’ve noticed when I do these searches I receive undesired results (which I understand happens) or I get no results at all. In some cases, I’m 100% positive that there are post(s) that contain my search keywords. Now I cannot write this letter and say that this happens every time, sometimes the search works great, but it’s the inconsistency which drives the frustration. I feel that this is something that is an important piece of functionality and something that should be fixed. I also, feel that I am not alone in these frustration.

Hopefully this makes it to the eyes of the developers of Tumblr, investors or anyone associated with the Tumblr platform. Again, love the service.

Yours Truely,

Jimmy Morris
