Pure Bathing Culture - Pendulum

This band makes me really happy. So many whimsical jams they have. There sound is undoubtable lush and sway-worthy. I remember hearing this song live when they came through DC opening up for Cavemen, and thinking to myself, “Damn this is gonna be a hit”. I still think it will be.

These fine folks will be releasing an album Moon Tides at the end of August through Partisan Records [US] and Memphis Industries [UK]. To say I’m stoked for this album would be an understatement. You can pick up their S/T EP through one of my faves Father / Daughter Records.

I don’t think the chills that have entered my body since the first time I watched this will leave my body all day. All I want to do is sit in the middle of a field stare at a lone tree and hope to god the light hits the hill it sits on like I’ve always dreamed. I believe when we reach the new heaven and the new earth this is what music will sound like.

This video serves as a teaser for Julianna’s upcoming album ‘Nepenthe’ due out August 20th, 2013 thru Dead Oceans. Can you imagine being the producer/engineer of this album?

The Lunchtime Sardine Club - Rumours

For the record, this is NOT a Fleetwood Mac tribute. However, it is something that brought me out of the disappoint that is the new Daft Punk album [Just so you know, I liked 2 songs on it, the rest was meh]. This seems to me to be a daydreamy solo project/creative outlet for Oliver Newton, drummer for Yndi Halda, to where the sound is very enervated, he just seems tired and worn out. But not in the worse way but more due to living life.

From what I can find out there is a proper release, Icescapads, due out in August on the Sonic Anhedonic Recording Company.

Give it more than 30 seconds. Yes, the intro is what it is, but make sure you’re listen to the drone filled track from the coast that is left [LA to be exact]. I get this sense he’s pretty hung up on a chick, but neither of them know it. Everything as slowen down to the point to where he can feel his hair grow. It seems to be about that epiphany in which the dude realizes he misses her.

Boardwalk - I’m To Blame

In the most respectful way I could say this, there is a lazy sound to this LA duo. Vocals a la a Mazzy Star and a tonal quality of a say a Beach House. Sleepy in the best way possible. Like those 30 minute cat naps where you wake up feeling amazing ready to take on whatever comes your way.

They were just recently signed by Stones Throw so their first LP should be coming out this summer. I will be picking it up as soon as it does.

Radiation City - Foreign Bodies

This Portland based group is one I’ve regrettably never blogged before today. I first heard them when they released their dream heavy EP Cool Nightmare where I was floored by the chick vocals, then saw them play at CMJ 2k11 what seems like a hundred times [not really, but really] in various types of spaces. From what I remember, no matter the venue size their sound was consistent, which I think attributes to the talent of a band’s members. What I love about this band is their balance of sound. There is this perfect balance between sharing of chick and dude vocals, doo-wop-esque sound intertwined with modern day synths that compliment instead of overshadow. At the end of the day, it’s just good fun music that I really enjoy listening to.

This is their lead single off their brand new LP Animals in Median due out 5/21/2013 via Tender Loving Empire [great label name]

Oh hello there spring, meet your new soundtrack. Like a early Bibio song with less glitch. Bright like the start of spring, that moment when you come out of your house during a long cold winter. Feeling the vitamin D build up as the sun rays drench any exposed skin.

This comes off Jamison’s latest EP released yesterday and recorded last month in his house situated on the side of Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford, BC. Made up of beats created by Jamison and improvisions added later by his roommate David to play guitar overtop. All resulting in a 4-track EP called The House On The Mountain.

Shy Boys - Ride

These two ultra cool kids, Nichole McMinn and Brandon Biondo, out of Knoxville have teamed up to create some great throwback rock n roll with hints of shoegaze. Forged from some screwed up sleep patterns and housing arrangements the two make up the natural core of the two with drummer Chris Rusk of Royal Bangs poking in and out to provide some backing beats.

You can download all of their singles from their bandcamp, and there will be a very limited pressing done thru Brandon’s label, who has one of the best names for a label, Dracula Horse.
